As the days shorten and the fruitful darkness of winter approaches, Gaia’s Blog is entering a time of renewal and growing relevance. My own thinking about Gaia and humanity—where we are now, and where we need to go—has become clearer and more incisive. And also more hopeful—which might be surprising, considering the state of the world right now. Here’s the hope: How can we possibly go wrong by allying ourselves with Mother Earth, with the vast reality of Gaia? With our home planet’s deep, … [READ MORE...] about The Path Forward

Celebrating Earth’s Wholeness and Our Own
To Seed a Resilient Future for All
In these perilous, heartbreaking times, a new era is beckoning—
a future of fulfillment for humans and renewal for the natural world. This future is revealed to us by the planet itself, a bountiful being of life and fertility known around the world as Mother Earth.
Some of us have come to refer to the wise, sentient fullness of this great being as GAIA….
Who is Gaia?
.
- The vast, intelligent, purposive being of the earth.

I grew up roaming the mountains and mesas of northern New Mexico. Out there, I came to know that the earth and her creatures and places are not only alive, intelligent and beautiful, but are an essential part of who I am. I felt a living, interconnected presence in nature, a vibrant, harmonious wholeness that also seemed to dwell within me. I also learned firsthand about the spiritual beings of the Sacred Land, and benefitted from their promptings and blessings for many years before I knew a language to describe it.
So, back in the 1970s, when I first heard about the Gaia Hypothesis—which proposes that the entire planet is an intrinsically renewing, self-regulating organism—I recognized what I’d always known. Since then, I’ve explored ancestral, earth-centered spiritual paths on 3 continents, and have experienced the beauty and power of Gaia as manifested in many landscapes, beings and deities. I am currently living in Ireland, continuing to listen to the land and its material and invisible inhabitants.
I’ve come to believe that the Green World of Nature has everything we need to deepen and inspire us. My calling is to do whatever I can to honor and strengthen Gaia’s regenerative, transformative powers, on behalf of all future generations of human and non-human beings.
